Entry 66: Billy Grayson

We keep having to drive all night and rest during the day in shifts.  These new zombies, banshees we've taken to calling them, they'll stalk us without end, running almost thirty miles per hour it seems.  We're able to keep driving and get on ahead of one cluster of them to rest, but if we wait too long another pack will come in and wail for the others that there's fresh food.  They've got very little in the way of strength, unlike the brute zombies, but these banshee zombies have pack intelligence, swarming us in preparation from multiple sides when they hear the moaning even before it turns into a wail.  As soon as we hear that distinctive moan we just pack up immediately and get going.  They're thankfully few and far between while driving, but at night they come out to the highway.  Some instinct telling them that they're harder to see at night and more likely to catch their prey.  Just last night, we saw a brute biting into someone not far from a crashed motorcycle and the banshees kept ripping off parts and running away before the brute zombie could grab hold of them.  Opportunistic predators I guess.  Damn bastards make it difficult to get any sleep without resorting to earplugs.  Definitely need to pick up a few of them for everyone if we can next time we pull into a town or gas station if they've got them.  Can't have those on watch or driving wearing them, but the rest of us need to get our rest so we're not falling asleep on duty.  Already when it was Kathy's turn once she started swerving a little at night before someone in the bus took over for her.
